Taylor ReQua Hits National Stage

Academy Standout Peforms at ECNL National PDP Training Camp

PORTLAND, OR (August 17, 2017) --- In a year of huge strides forward for Hamlin native Taylor ReQua, the icing on the cake was an invite to the ECNL National Training Center at Nike Headquarters in Portland, Oregon, this summer.

The 2016-17 season began with ReQua joining the Western New York Flash Academy for its first season in the Elite Clubs National League. ReQua joined on with the 00G ECNL squad and the season took off for the forward as league play picked up.

"The level of play was a huge step up for WNY players in general, but something they needed to experience first hand,” Flash Academy Director of Coaching Rob Ferguson explained. “The training environment, coupled with the competitive ECNL schedule was a tremendous learning platform for Taylor. It pushed her beyond her comfort zone, something all top players need to learn to handle if they are to be successful at the highest levels".

During the season, ReQua was identified along with five Flash Academy teammates and was invited to the ECNL Regional PDP event held in Pottstown, PA in March. ReQua performed well enough at that event, coupled with her conference play and her showing at the ECNL National Showcase held at the PDA Showcase Tournament in May, to receive an invite to the 2017 ECNL/id2 National Training Camp, held July 27-31.

The camp, by invite only, consisted of the top 90 ECNL players from across the United States in the 1999, 2000, 2001 birth years. The players were able to train with a selection of the top coaches in the nation, including the WNY Flash Academy Jr. Program Director of Coaching Gary Bruce.

ReQua also starred as part of the Region 1 Olympic Development Program team that travelled to Italy. ReQua was named Team MVP.

To cap off an impressive year ReQua, who will be moving to Duquesne University to team up with Flash Alumni Hannah Spitzer in 12 months, stepped up to play with the Western New York Flash’s team that played in United Women’s Soccer. The Flash team, sporting 7 current Flash youth players, 3 coaches and 3 alumni as part of the roster, finished the season with a .500 record in their first season in the UWS.

“Last year was a great learning experience for me because the speed of play and physicality were a huge step up, and to have the opportunity to be a part of the Regional PDP and the National Camp was something of a dream for me,” ReQua said. “I see great things in our future. Without the support of all my coaches currently at the Flash Academy and previous, and without the support of my awesome teammates, I would never have reached this level.”

In 2018/19 ReQua will be an integral part of the WNY Flash 99/00G ECNL team, which is expecting to achieve big things under coach Regan Steele in the ECNL.

“I am very excited about this upcoming year with my ECNL team,” ReQua said. “We’ve got great things in our future and I can’t wait to get started.”
