The Western New York Flash looks for its first points of the 2015 season .
The Western New York Flash will face its second-straight West Coast test on Saturday, when it visits Portland Thorns FC in a 7 p.m. ET kickoff at Providence Park. The Flash (0-1-0) will look to rebound from a 5-1 opening day loss to defending NWSL Shield Winner Seattle Reign FC, while the Thorns (1-0-0) started the season with a 4-1 victory over the Boston Breakers.
Saturday’s match will be streamed live on YouTube and can be watched by clicking the link here. Fans can also follow live play-by-play at the Flash's official Twitter page, @WNYFlash, and can join the conversation by using the hashtag #PTFCvWNYF.
The Flash will hope to replicate its performance from its last visit to Providence Park, when the team defeated Portland by a 5-0 scoreline. The game, on June 7, 2014, was a record-setting night for the Flash, as it marked the most goals scored by the Flash in NWSL play and also set a record for the largest margin of victory in the league.
The two teams have played a total of six times, with the June game marking the Flash’s only win over Portland. The clubs have drawn three times, while Portland has won two of the meetings – one coming in the 2013 NWSL Championship game in Rochester.
In Sunday’s season opener at Seattle, the Flash were able to cut the Reign lead to 2-1 on a goal from Jordan Angeli, but Seattle’s Megan Rapinoe recorded a second-half hat trick to lift her team to victory. The Thorns, who opened in front of its home crowd on Saturday, defeated the Breakers 4-1 on a brace from Allie Long and goals from Mana Shim and Sinead Farrelly.
After Saturday’s game in Portland, the Flash will get to play in front of its home crowd for the first time in 2015, hosting the Boston Breakers on May 2 at Sahlen’s Stadium. Tickets for the 7 p.m. ET game are available online at wnyflash.com, by calling the Flash at (716) 655-PLAY or by calling the Sahlen’s Stadium Box Office at (585) 454-KICK.
