WNY Flash adds 6 players to Preseason Roster

The Western New York Flash of the National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) has announced the addition of six players to the preseason roster. Erica Henderson, Ashley Walsh, Madison Van Dine, Brigit Reder, Tiffany Hurst and Carson Michalowski have all been added following the 2013 Open Tryouts. 


Erica Henderson, a Rochester, N.Y. native, attended West Virginia University where she played as a defender. Henderson started all 24 matches in 2010, her senior year, and was named to the NSCAA second team all-Northeast region. Henderson is one of two players to play every minute in the WVU 2010 season. She ender her college career with 22 points from 10 goals and two assists. The center back helped WVU defenses record 38 shutouts in her last 3 seasons with a school-record 14 shutouts in 2010. In 2012, Henderson was drafted in the fourth round of the Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) Draft by the Western New York Flash.


Ashley Walsh is a goalkeeper from Baldwinsville, N.Y. who attended Colgate University. In her junior year (2011), Walsh was named one of the team's co-captains and started all 19 games, playing a total of 1734:28 minutes. Walsh recorded a total of 78 saves for a .722 save percentage in the 2011 season. She received Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week honors and was named the ECAC Defensive Player of the Week during her sophomore year.


Madison Van Dine is a midfielder from Brea, Calif. VanDine played for University of Texas El Paso in 2009 before transferring to Cypress College in 2010. She went on to finish her career at the University of Rhode Island. This past season, VanDine started 19 games. She recorded 15 shots throughout the season and helped with shutouts against five Atlantic 10 teams.


Brigit Reder, originally from West Chester, Ohio, played for Ball State University as a defender. She finished her career tied for seventh on Ball State's all-time goals scored list with 11, and is the first player in school history with 6,725 career minutes played. Reder has been is a two-time Academic All-MAC selection, has been named to the All-MAC Second Team and a Capital One Academic All-District selection. The former Cardinal started all 20 games in her senior (2012) season, playing all but 11 minutes on the field. She was also selected to the first-team preseason All-MAC by College Sports Madness. Reder was the team co-captain for the 2012 season. 


Tiffany Hurst is from Santa Rosa, Calif. and played as a defender for San Diego State University. She was one of five players to start in all 20 games in the 2011 season and was a 2011 all-MW first-team selection. In 2009, Hurst Started 19 of the 22 games in which she played, recording five points and tying for the fifth most on the team. In 2008, Hurst was a regular in the starting lineup as a freshman, making 17 starts in 19 games. Hurst recorded four points on one goal and two assists her freshman year and fired 20 shots, ranking her sixth on the team.


Carson Michalowski, from Plano, Texas, played as a defender for Oklahoma State University. She started all 24 games in the 2011 season and was a key part of a defense that led the NCAA in goals averaging 0.337 and 18 shutouts. Michalowski has been named to the All-Big 12 First Team and was an NSCAA All-Central Region Second Team selection. The Cowgirl earned a spot on the Big 12 Soccer Championship All-Tournament Team and was an Academic All-Big 12 First Team honoree in 2011.
