The Western New York Flash announced today the signing of FC Barcelona captain and Spanish international María Victoria Losada Gómez. Losada will be added to the roster pending the receipt of her P-1 visa and International Transfer Certificate (ITC). Per team and league policy, terms of the contract were not disclosed.
“I’m very excited to have the captain of FC Barcelona sign with us,” said Flash general manager and head coach Aaran Lines. “She’s a young player with tremendous upside. I’m happy that we are able to bring a new and exciting foreigner into the NWSL.”
The midfielder, most commonly known as “Vicky”, has spent the previous six years of her career in Barcelona. Vicky made her debut with the team in 2008 and, in her second season, helped lead the club to the Copa Catalunya. Barcelona would go on to win the same championship the next three years.
Vicky and Barcelona won their first national championship in 2011, defeating RCD Espanyol 1-0 for the Queen’s Cup. In the next two seasons, Barcelona won back-to-back Spanish Liga championships and capped off 2013 with a second Queen’s Cup title.
“I’m extremely grateful to FC Barcelona for their professionalism in finding a way to work together to have Vicky play in the best league in the world,” Lines added. “This is very exciting for the club.”
Vicky earned her first appearances in the UEFA Champions League in 2012. The Terrassa native was again selected for the competition in 2013 and scored her first Champions League goal in the Round of 16 against FC Zurich.
A member of the Spanish National Team, Vicky appeared in six matches in the UEFA Euro Championships from 2011 to 2013.
The Flash will begin preseason on March 10 and kick-off the season on the road against the Washington Spirit on April 13 at 4 p.m. Season tickets and Flex packages are now on sale and can be purchased at wnyflash.com or by calling the Sahlen’s Stadium box office at (585) 454-KICK.
